EME 2040-Blog #10

I found the survey and data collection to be very simple. The only problem that I encountered is that sometimes people don’t respond or take the survey(s) right away. As a kindergarten teacher, I do not foresee myself using surveys with my young class, but I could definitely see how a survey could come in handy with the parents. I could send out a survey to see when parents could come help in the classroom, a field trip, or a party. I could also send out a parent survey to find out how the parents perceive their kids understanding of homework. This could be very helpful in finding out if my students and I are on the same page. Lastly, Excel could be very helpful in keeping things organized and to have an online copy of my students’ grades. These two educational technology tools are very helpful and can be applied to many different things in various classrooms.  After reviewing a few of my classmates’ blogs, I found that many of them had very similar experiences as me. In Nicole’...

A flipped Classroom is a teaching strategy where more of the learning is done online, and worksheets and things that would usually be assigned as homework are in change being completed in the classroom. In a flipped classroom, the lesson part is typically watched online, and then worksheets and solving problems are done in class when the student can ask the teacher questions. In a traditional classroom, when a teacher teaches the lesson in class and then students go home to work on the problems alone, often there are many questions that the students do not understand. I could see how the flipped classroom could be beneficial, but I do think some problems could come up if students did not watch the assigned videos at home. This would cause the students to be of different pages and could create more problems for the teacher.  Open Educational Resources (OER) are accessible to the public and can be used to support learning. They are typically available online and are free to use. O...

I have now been working with the program Diigo for a couple weeks, and I feel confident using many different tools. I can quickly save websites, comment, annotate, and find sources to help with the topic I am researching. I could see this resource being very useful when having students research and share sources they have found. Especially in a group project, students could collaborate, comment, and share content quickly and easily. As a professional and future educator, I could see how this program could help me to collaborate with other teachers, save helpful sources, and easily access various tools. All in all, I am continuing to learn more about Diigo, and I find that this program provides a great teaching and learning tool for educators and students. I think PowerPoint can be an extremely useful tool in the classroom and can aid in student comprehension and learning. When looking at Bloom’s taxonomy to analyze the use of PowerPoint, it can be explicitly seen as to how useful th...

Hello again! We are now officially over half way through the semester. For the past two months I have been using Twitter, and I can easily see the benefits of this technology. It is fairly easy to use and operate on my cell phone and I have been following some educational resources that post some interesting things. Twitter can be used to keep up with people, learn new strategies, and interact with fellow educators or resources that can help teachers. I have had no issues with twitter and find it easily accessible every day.  Another project I have been working on is the web design assignment, which took me a long time but taught me many skills. I haven’t used a program like Weebly before, and it definitely had a learning curve. After finishing, I now know how to change the layout, insert a google calendar, and the basics of creating a website. If I were to make a new website now, it would be much easier, and I would be more efficient at completing it. I like the fact that the d...

ILP Participation-Online Resume Professional Development

Hello, this week I have taken a step in preparing for my professional development. I took an online resume building workshop. This workshop took me through videos that described each step to  take in building my resume. It was extremely helpful. I have learned how to make a resume, and I have successfully made one. Now I plan to meet with a career advisor at the career center, so that I can get some in person feedback on how to edit my resume. I used Microsoft word to create this resume like the video said, and now I am on my way to being ready to use it in the near future. Here is a link to my voice thread describing my experience: https://voicethread.com/share/12181501/

Hello again! This week I have been exploring different technologies and school websites. When looking at school websites, I looked at Roberts Elementary School. On their school website they have a separate page for each teacher. On the front page there is information about upcoming events, announcements, school contact information, and important documents, etc. When I actually click a teacher’s page, I would have to sign in. There are tabs on each teacher website such as: meet the teacher, student resources, announcements, important documents, and class calendar. If I could sign in, I would be able to see all of this information. This school is K-5 th and is located in Tallahassee. Here is the link:  https://www.leonschools.net/roberts Moving onto the topic of technology, last week I took a class visit to the technology sandbox, which I had no clue even existed. It was a really informative experience and I got to earn about some technology that was new to me. I got to see a 3D p...
